Opinion on Neoprene Swimsuit?

Catherine

I'm doing a triathelon in the Washington State area and will need to swim 3 miles in the rather cold waters up there, 100 miles of biking and the standard marathon length run. I'm a bit worried about how cold the water will be. I've been told about 50 degrees or maybe less.

Many are recommending that i wear a neoprene swimsuit, specifically Bodyglove or Oceanline. I'll need to get the one piece suits instead of the body suit cause I need to have range of movement around my legs.

I like the Ocleanline one but it seems to be cut high and has little coverage in the rear. I like the Body glove one too, but can only find them used. Any recommendations? Both suits are really expensive and I would like to know if they really will keep me warm. I've heard other women diving in frozen water with these suits and come out fine. If you also know how they fit, that would be really helpfull too. I will probably get a S or XS even though I'm rather tall (5'11") to get a tighter fit. I have a really short torso (38inch inseams) so that should be okay right?

Hi Catherine,

First of all great choices for swimsuits. I think you will look fantastic in them.

The high cut nature of the suit tend to help with less drag in the water. If it means you glide smoother or increase your lead, then I am all for high cut swimsuits.

As for keeping you warm, I would suggest you invest in a neoprene wetsuit to wear for the swim leg. Yes, it will mean you need to remove it in transition for the next leg, but if practice your transitions you will get the suit off quite quickly and reduce the time to a fine art. There for making it easy for you to run/bike in your regular high cut suit.

Do not be afraid to wear this suit. It is so flattering on almost all body shapes and I think you will certainly find it comfortable as you run/bike as there is no material to rub up against the higher part of your thighs like low cut suits tend to do.

Wear it with pride and enjoy your race. Don't forget to practice your transition.

GIRLS...does this swimsuit look too tight?

one piece swimsuits are not supposed to be baggy, they tend to cling to your skin, especially if the suit is wet. its just the nature of one-pieces. that doesn't look bad to me.
