best cardio workout...?

Lola

what do you think is the best cardio workout...to lose weight fast?

Answer
The one you do every day. Seriously. Running doesn't do you a bit of good if you can only work up the motivation to do it once every six months. On the other hand, marching and jogging in place is fricken awesome if you do it for two hours a day while you watch tv.

Find something you like to do. Do it every day. Consistency is more important than content.

And don't forget your diet. A lot of people increase their food intake when they exercise... by more calories than they actually burn! Someone who runs for an hour a day then consumes an extra 1500 calories is significantly worse off than someone who just eats right in the first place. A healthy consistent diet combined with healthy consistent exercise equals a hot body.

Good luck!

jump rope...a good cardio AND toning workout?

Ariah!!!

I need to lose ten pounds. In addition to eating healthier I was wondering if jumping rope would tone me up and make me lose weight? I don't have access to a gym or pool and my treadmill is broken. (actually it sends electricity through my body, i don't know what happened, but I don't feel safe on it!!). Also, I am in AZ and it's still too hot to go outside and walk or run.
Will jump rope tone me up and make me lose weight at the same time?

How long should I jump for?

Fast/slow?

Thanks for your ideas and advice!

Answer
Jump roping is a great cardio workout because it utilizes your entire body.

Remember, quality over quantity. The best way to utilize this workout is to do it with high intensity in intervals (i.e. HIIT or tabata). This will greatly shorten your workout time, but still maintain the efficiency of the workout.

Interval training helps to burn fat and gain lean muscle. In addition, you continue to burn calories 24-hrs after your workout. Whereas, with steady-state cardio your fat burning stops the moment your workout ends.

An example:
- Jump rope high intensity (i.e. sprints, double-unders) for 30-40 sec
- Followed by 20 sec of low intensity for recovery
- Repeat this cycle for 10-15 min and you'll be winded
- Do this 3-4days/ week.
