go to the fabric store... u can ask a sales person and they can show you all of the different swimsuit fabric they have... they have some preety CUTE fabrics... i made a 2 piece... omg! it was SOOOOO cute... it had ties, and it had thin straps... you can "fiddle with it" until you like the design... oh... and get enough that you can make extra parts, etc. if something breaks on it... good luck!

also, won't bras also give way more support?

no they cant.
this is like saying why cant guys swim in their boxers.
it is because the material that makes up bikinis is water resistant. panties and bras soak up the water and make it extremely hard to swim in.
think about it this way, would you swim with a tee shirt or with no tee shirt. The tee shirt would make it hard to swim, wouldnt it? because it would hold the water and weigh you down.
it is also extremely uncomfortable. swimming in a bra = not too much fun.
why dont you try it one day and then ask the same question?
